As the job market and the economy experience the fluctuations that inevitably come with any year, the value that job seekers place on benefits will not change. Benefits will remain an important component of any job offer. According to Glassdoor surveys, about 60 percent of people report that benefits and perks are a major factor in considering whether to accept a job offer.
The Top of the List
Three benefits that are considered standard remain critical for millennials, Gen Xers, and baby boomers. These include health insurance, vacation time, and a 401k plan with a matching incentive.
Beyond that, a survey conducted by Unum indicated that when employees were asked to select from a choice of 15 potential benefits options, the clear winners were paid family leave and remote workplace options. The good news is remote workplace options are a low-cost option for employers. Better yet, many job seekers who are considering a higher salary offer will accept a lower salary in order to gain flexibility.
In response to those answers, attracting top talent has many organizations rethinking what the workplace looks like. Technology has enabled changing work environments, and for most organizations, this is a win-win option. Companies get the best talent and save on facilities costs. Employees get to work on their terms by eliminating at least some of the hassles of commuting to work.
According to SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management), more than two-thirds (70%) of organizations now offer some type of telecommuting, either on a full-time, part-time or ad-hoc basis, up from 62 percent last year and 59 percent in 2014. Amazon, UnitedHealth Group, SAP and Aetna are among the employers embracing remote and flexible work arrangements.

Another interesting finding, according to SHRM, is the number of employers offering vision benefits has increased 7 percentage points within the last four years.
